OK..."the sport" needs a new IAC and I'm wondering if there is an alternative to the stock Explorer 302 location...see pic.
I thought that possibly the TB could be rotated to put the IAC on the side but I'm not sure about the throttle cables...
any thoughts...?

why the need to reposition? If you do, the cables are going to be a PITA, a TB from a mustang has the IAC on top IIRC, it's on the side. Was on my '87 stang anyway...

hey wood1,
thanks for the reply...
the reason for the relocate is that the top of the IAC comes in to contact with the underside of hood insulation...rubbed a big hole.
I may be pickin' fly shi* out of pepper, but it bugs me to see the nice clean insulation all "tore up" when the hood is open.
I just thought of another solution...cut the insulation away from the contact area and use heat tape to secure the cut area...maybe add a liece of dynamat like stuff stcuk to te underside of the hood!
I think that when the engine "torques" under acceleration it moves enough to cause the issue.
Do you know if changing the TB to an aftermarket onewould have the same IAC motor location?

I wonder if you couldn't just rotate it 180 degrees and re mount.
It's just an air valve.

Unless the reversed air flow effects the inner valve it should work.

The mustang TB had the throttle cables on the bottom and the IAC on the side. I get what you are saying about the hood insulation. The nose forward of the suspension on my old mustang was a little bent from the previous owner (very common) and the upper rad mount brackets would hit the hood insulation, drove me nuts... You could Dynamat the whole underside of your hood, that would look slick.

regards the insulation...a product like dynamat IS part of the the answer...!
I found a very similar product that I'm going to try its called EZ Cool.
It's is a 3/16" closed-cell polyethylene foam core with 99% pure polished aluminum facings on both sides. The good thing is, its cost a 4' x 10' roll is only $ 31.50. The web site shows a good installation!
Check out the pics of this install! http://www.lobucrod.com/newinspics.html
I agree that "doing" the underside of the hood would look SSSSlick.
This installation of insulation is a good reason to make the old, turned around Dodge hood scoop operation by cutting louvers in to the hood underneath where the scoop is attached! it might even help with the ambient heat from the bigger, HOTTER motor. It might help with lower engine temps when coupled witrh the two "pusher" in front of the radiator.
Flipping the IAC I think would mean rotating the tb 90 deg. toward the passenger side...that might work! I think gthe engine bay would be neater and look better with the tb and IAC rotating! The cables could be a problem...hell, they're a problem in the stock location.
I wonder...would the mustang tb and cables work on the '97 explorer 5.0L
motor? Could they be modified to fit? Perhaps it's a bracket location thing!
I'll get the IAC replaced and the insulation done and see how it looks. It needs to perform good AND look good!
I'll report on the outcome.

Ooo ooo and some Buick style vents in the fenders too... I love the GNX.

...perhaps a Range Rover style, operable vent on the side...?
The louvers, btw would not be seen..."under the scoop." Check the pic of "the sport" and look at the hood. It is sort of a two part cowl hood when installed backwards.:)
