i wouldnt drill into the frame so maybe get 3 pieces of round tubing that could slip over the sliders and weld tabs on them to use the stock stepbar bolts ... i think that would be our best and cheapest bet

yeah that sounds like a good bet and it would support the sliders well. i wanna try it now!!

yeah your right, i didnt think about that but we wouldnt want the rear tire rubbin, i would say 67" is a good size. how would you go about mounting them since they have those 3 pipes sticking out where the frame would be?

Strongest would be to weld them directly to the frame. Another option would be like ArmySoldier said and make brackets. I don't know if the stock step bar brackets would be very strong...so I was thinking about drilling the frame if I went the bracket route.

Then again I just find myself thinking why go to all the trouble of drilling for brackets when you could just weld them on.

yeah i think i would want them welded just to be sure they are on there solid. im not to savvy on this so how would you weld them to the frame? make a bracket and weld the bracket to the frame and the slider?

if you are going to be serious off roading then weld em to the frame ... but any modifications can weaken the frame ... the running board bolts would be plenty if used solely for step bars ... hate to admit it but i would only have em for looks so the oem bolts would be plenty for me

yeah im really only going to use them to step up on and for looks, there arent many trails here in oklahoma and if there are they are far from me, so i would probably just do the brackets then

Hello fellas. New guy here. Thought I'd show off a pic of my 02 Eddie Bauer that I picked up this past weekend (sold my 93 Ex). Was pretty nasty out over the weekend so wasn't able to do much of anything besides put the big billet grille in. Was over borrowing my pops shop vac today so I got his 2010 Eddie Bauer in the pics as well.

Both those explorers look nice. Already modding it I see; what future mods are planned?

Yeah I'm really liking the look of it. Goes good with the chrome wheels. Now that it's getting nicer this week, I'll actually be able to install the smaller billet grille in the bumper.

Well, going to take the running boards off, install the lower billet grille. Thinking I'm probably going to attempt to paint the inside of the headlights black like a few of the guys on here have, and possibly some new corners and either tint the tail lights or just get some new ones. Definitely get the front windows tinted to match the rest. Want to get a nice stereo deck soon. Still thinking on some other things. Any ideas guys?

Wookie your ex looks good! is it 4wd or 2wd? you could do an intake and exhaust like some of the guys on here, i am currently workin on doing my intake

4WD. With this winter being as nasty as it was, there was no way I was going to get a 2WD haha.

Yeah I'm thinking of at least doing an exhaust. I saw a pic in this thread while browsing that I loved how it looked.

I have a how to in my sig about painting headlights. Not the most pics in it but its a fairly straight through process. For the audio system plenty of choices. Make sure you price any speaker online before you buy anything. Amazon has amazing deals on many speakers. Things I've done; Bull Bar, Aux Lights, Pioneer DEH-2000MP Head Unit, Kenwood Speakers, Tail Light Guards, HID lights, Removed Running Boards, Intake, Exhaust, Painted Headlights, Billet Grilles, and New Corners. That's all I can think of right now.
For a few ideas take a look at my explorer if you want

N.Harris said most of the mods but if you wanted to you could get beefier tires to fill up the wheel wells, or lift it a bit, it's all up to you though, it looks super clean

Nate, you forgot 4th Gen Side View Mirrors. ;)

I contacted the seller tonight asked "Hey I am pretty interested in this explorer. Do you have maintenance logs? Also what kind of suspension lift is installed and how bad was it abused?"

I got the following response....

"No maintenance logs but its been done regulary. The lift is a straight axle front and rear. Theres not a lift for it so i used solid axles. It has never seen the off road."

Thanks for contacting the seller. Now knowing its solid axles I'd love to hear about the swap and how it was done.
Comfirmed my suspisions when I first saw that Ex when I was going to the mall.

Hey Xplorerguru, think you could send him one more asking about the steering. I'm sure its a gear box but dont know what it would be from.
