I just wanted to add to the never-ending topic of 3rd gen explorers with high-performing offroad suspensions. I just found this picture, it looks to me as if it was built on the factory frame, but i know professional race teams have the money to build high-dollar custom trucks. I still would like to know what this team has done along the lines of suspenion modification/fabrication.

Well obviously, from the conical looking thing bolted to the lower control arm (LCA) that this thing is probably running coilovers. But as far as the rest of the suspension, the geometry and dimensions doesnt look like it'd be the same as a stock 3rd gen's.

Keep in mind that in some races, the suspension geometry must stay the same so most of the time, if you can't modify the suspension enough to support the truck's weight, then you modify the truck's weight (lighten it) so that the suspension doesnt need as much travel. Which is why you see the all-composite body and probably an aluminum firewall (the flat thing behind the front wheel).

ya this is a re-post..i've seen it before..coilover front and it's linked in the rear

...i think someone else posted this back in june and that thread had a bunch of info and links too...
