i'v had my x for a while and the light has never worked, it was broken even before i got the truck, how can i fix this?!??!? i thinks its the neon kind, i dont wanna spend big money on this, is there a replacement for this light made with leds? i really wanna get that thing lightin any imput would be great thanks!!! :D :exp:

Just did mine... I found a used light that worked online for less than $50. I do have some BROKEN light units for sale cheap if you want to do a LED conversion on one without taking your truck apart.

Replacing the bulb is kind of a pain in that you need to drill out the rivets to get the light trim off, and then re-rivet it back on. I bought the tool and rivets at home depot for about $40 but if you could borrow one from someone that would be a lot cheaper.

Good luck

i may be interested in that broken 3rd light - i'm wanting to do some lighting mods (right now my '99 sport is pretty much completly stock). I saw where somebody tinted or painted the word Explorer into the 3rd light, but i'm thinking of driling/epoxying in LEDs to form the word Explorer....

which kinda brings me to a general question - will laws vary by state when it comes to tail lights (i'm from Georgia) or are they pretty much all the same? As in, i had heard LED tail lights were illegal (offroad use only), but i know of at least 1 line of stock Caddys and a few big rigs that have LED tail lights. also, i feel less fearful of moding my 3rd brake light rather than my main 2 (i'm assuming the 2 side ones are all thats needed to be legal).

any imput? (or price on your broken 3rd light cover? or will i be better off making one from scratch?)
