Afboy143, is there any way you can repost the pictures from your original posting? They don't seem to work anymore.

This is such a headache.

It's so hard to find good exhaust systems for this Explorer (SOHC dual inlet). I want something that doesn't sound ricey, doesn't have much highway drone, and gives a little better performance. I know that's probably asking for too many things haha.

Problems

Does anyone know if the Y-pipe has to have cats on a 2000 explorer is only for california emissioms? mine needs replacing its off truck but only can find just Y-pipe without cats

What motor do you have? If you have the OHV it shouldn't be hard to find, the same with the SOHC.

so i wanna change out my muffler for an aftermarket, dont wanna do whole system. what inexpensive muffler will sound better then stock, i would like to keep piping under their, like using a Y pipe, the Y pip will cost like 40ish and i dont wanna spend another 80 on a muffler but i want it to sound better (deeper, non ricer like, i have the 4.0L sohc) what do you guys think

I am currently working on getting my video files back. I will see what I can do...

To me so far the only one that hasnt sounded "ricey" is the magnaflow on the ranger, but I am guessing that it is a 3.0L, can anyone verify that?

I used to want the 50 series but it isnt doing it for me anymore.

I searched stangnet a few months ago when I was going to do my exhaust and a lot of people were putting a "gt take off" on the v6 stang, which is the stock mustang gt muffler once that person has gone with an aftermarket.

I dont have time to search for them right now but does anyone know if the stock v6 2005+ mustangs are dual in single out? or do they y before that? My friend has his old gt mufflers but they are both single/single.

If I put in a y pipe, then went single/single would I lose a bit of power, from the muffler not giving me enough backpressure? I am thinking so but not sure? Because right now my dual muffler is regulating backpressure and the single/single ones would be fairly free flowing right?

I do a lot of searching on the mustang forums as well since the new mustangs are 4.0's. The stock gt mufflers are single in/single out. Offset/offset.

Stock mustangs use a Y pipe and are single in/single out.

What exactly is your motor (OHV, SOHC) and what year is your truck? I can help you from there....

Just an FYI, the v6 mustang mufflers are very restrictive. I dont see why people would take stock GT mufflers and put them on something else. I know people get the gt-take-off pipes and replace the mufflers with something better on v6's.

Forget what I said about your truck specs. I just read your sig. The SOHC motor uses a dual in/single out muffler. The muffler acts as the Y pipe so to say. In the past when I had all stock pipes, I cut it right at the muffler and used a magnaflow Y pipe. Dual 2.25" inlets/ single 2.5" outlet fits stock pipes. http://www.performance-curve.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=169 sells this. this way you can run a single in/single out 2.5" muffler. The muffler you will need to buy if using the Y pipe set up as I decribed above is a offset in/center out. Good luck!

Im assuming you mean the stock v6 mustangs use a y pipe and are single/single?

Do you know what size piping the gt as well as the v6 use? are they both the same?

Thanks a bunch Afboy

After seeing Afboy's video's I went out and got a Series 40 Delta Flow (only model I can ever find) put on my 2000 Eddie. Man does it sound great.

I'll see if I can get a video made at school tomorrow, and uploaded.

Very nice! Which delta flow model did you buy? I cant wait to hear this video!

Went with model 42441 (or 942441).
2.25 offset/ 2.25 center

Flowmaster Delta Flow 40

I took the Eddie to Midas right after school got out, and it was done in about 45 minutes. The mechanic was commending me for my homework, cause it fit perfectly, all he had to do was add an extension from what he cut off. It's all welded on and sounds great. He couldn't even bring himself to charge me any more than $50 (base price).

NOTE: To those of you who plan on doing their exhaust, and have the same stock set-up as me (Headers meet at a Y-pipe and enter the muffler as single in) Both ends of the exhaust pipe are 2.25 inches.

I'll try and get one tomorrow. Weathers been really crappy in Pittsburgh as of late. (lots of rain and cold) And I've been working

Best bet is the video/sound clip would be on a cell phone (Palm), but hopefully it'll sound good.

Just got a new exhaust installed. Holley Hooker Headers Max Flow

http://www.holley.com/types/Maximum Flow.asp

Cost me $65 shipped. Its the offset in/single out muffler. Single each side. I bought it for:

1)Fuel Mileage. Flow through design helps with power/fuel economy
2)Deeper/louder sound

This muffler sounds pretty good. No drone crusing/highway, but this baby gets pretty loud when on the gas. Noticable power increase compared to the turbo muffler I had on before. Nice investment Id say!
