4.0 Exhaust Clip Thread !

Well, thanks. I still want to do something with my cats and I want to finish it off with a nice stainless tip.

I got an 40 series(original) muffler with a turn down on my 4.0 today. An IMO it sounds great. Loud, but not obnoxious loud at low rpm's an mellows out in higher rpm's. Was concerned with it being turned down that fumes would enter in the truck with windows down at stoplights, but no fumes FTW. Pics an Vids tomorrow.

nice one...Got more than mine, my ex will probably never do a burny in its life lol.

Well since I have dual cats it was way quiet with a few diff mufflers, so we went straight out the back from the cats. Sounds like a ricer now :( No drone or anything, just that ricer sound.

Look into the original 40 series Flowmaster or the Cherry Bomb Xtremes. I have sound clips in this thread (hopefuly they still work. I havent been paying for my webhosting lately lol)

A flowmaster will never come near my truck.

Then I guess keep the ricer sound???

What do you recommend for a 6 cylinder truck then?

There is 156584 more companys other than flowmaster

What do you have against Flowmaster? I'm not for or against them, just curious.

The drone, always there at highway speeds. They flow about the same as stock. More HP gains will be had with anything other than a flowmaster.

that wasnt my question. I said what muffler do you recommend over a flowmaster for six cylinder motors and not get a ricey sound out of it. Also, keep in mind, 6 cylinders like back pressure so free flowing isnt the best like it is for a 8 cylinder

Magnaflow and Dynomax superturbo don't sound ricey.

my personal opinion, turbos are so quiet that you realy cant tell. I had one on my truck. Could really only hear it under hard acceleration. Magnaflow sounded way to ricey for me. Even the sound clips on their website of the 6 cylinder vehicles didnt impress. I guess it's just personal opinion. I know flowmasters dont flow that well, but I will sacrifice a bit of power for sound.

Aren't turbos really bad at flowing as well?

Im not sure yet, but I will be finding out. And then Ill tell you haha

not bad. I guess im used to mufflers like IMCO xtreme and flowmaster 40 original so that sounds quiet to me lol. But do you have stock piping and just muffler or what

2.5" from the cat and then dumped about a foot after the muffler.

yeah, the Flowmasters have a more hollow sound. I had a Magnaflow on my old 92 and I liked that sound of that. It is much smoother than the Flowmaster IMO.

does anyone know of a cat-back system for a 98 sport w/ sohc dual inlet?

Just get a muffler that is dual 2.25" inlets and any shop will weld it in. Flowmaster SUV 50 series comes to mind
