hey tobbe, this is a cool project! I wish you luck with it! I wonder about the oil pump issue, have you solved that yet? If so, I guessed I missed it, but if not< why not a dry sump set up? A pump driven by the accessory belt with hoses routed to the vital stuff? Just a thought. Keep up the great work.

Great project, I wish you well with it. I'd love tobe able to start another project, that's a good one.

I've got a 99 SOHC Explorer that I've gone through the timing chain issues. If the Cosworth valvetrain is as reliable as I would think, no one should consider the SOHC valvetrain.

I would much prefer to attempt using the SOHC block, or at least the balancer/dampner, to be able to use the SOHC PCM. The OBDII operating system is much much better than what came on early 4.0's. What level of operating system does the Cosworth use, I read mention of it, but I haven't heard anything about it?

Is it a sequential port fuel injection, mass air instead of speed density? I gather that there is a distributor also. Anotherwords, would it be beneficial, or too much trouble, to get the SOHC PCM to manage the engine? There are excellent programmers who can tune these later model PCM's in any application, from NA to supercharged. The transmission functions can be elliminated/ignored if needed.

This is great stuff, I love engine parts swapping. What difference is there in the bores? Have you opened up the head chambers to match the 4.0 block? I'd want the compression under 9.5 for future supercharging. Regards,

Well figure the rpm range, what is the rpm range of the little DOHC engine? Then multiply that by the size of the engine, and divide by 4.0 liters. That will give you the new rpm range of the resultant 4.0 DOHC engine, using the DOHC cams. That should be very good compared to the SOHC 4.0 engine.

I blew the clutch when I was out on the road mapping it.. I managed to drive it 400km, and I can say that when everything is tuned in, it will run pretty nice....... It's bloody strong......

I estimate I will be back on the road in april with it..... Got a much stronger clutch now

I haven't tested it at full throttle and above 4000rpm yet.....

The 2.9 24v engine will with an aftermarket ECU go up to 7500rpm with stock cams before you shift gears.......

Stock cams got duration 250 and lift 9.5mm.... (0.374")

I am at work at the moment so I don't got access to any pictures....

Got the engine in another car now. Upgraded the gearbox from a T9 to Mt 75, sinter paddle and sachs racing pressure plate for escort cosworth, should cope with almost 800Nm of torque. I have also modifed my injectors so they flow close to 600cc/min. I have replaced the sprocket that drives the "4,0" camshaft for a bigger one due to excessive wear. Had some turbo plans, but they have to wait, otherwise I won't get the car out to the summer.... I have also invested some money in better tuning equippment. Plan to get the car ready within the next 2 months....
