Could I swap my current 4.0 Liter V6 [216,000K miles] for a 4.6 or 5.0 V8?

Could it fit without cutting the fenders or firewall?

What all would need to be done for it to be done RIGHT? Can the stock 5 spd tranny handle the extra torque?

About how much would it cost?

I like the feel and the sound of a V8 and I dont know how much longer the current engine is going to last.

I'm just thinking out loud on this and would like any thoughts yall have on the subject!
Thanks
Denny

There is tons of information about this on the Explorer Project Board. There's also a couple people (and growing) on the board who have websites that have pictures and info concerning putting V8's in explorer.

Note: Your best route is a 5.0L V8. Your Transmission will NOT bolt up, so get ready to have to put something else in there. It is going to cost you about $4,000-8,000 avg and require your vehicle to be down for a min of 1.5 weeks. (usually takes about month)
Like I said, check the board, and do a search on the web.........tons of info out there.

Have fun researching
Al
