4.0L swap

hey i got a 91 explorer with a 4L ohv an im woundering how hard it is to sawp a 5.0L, will it bolt up do i need only motor mounts, will it bolt to my 5 spd tranny. thanx for ur time cheers

swap is possible - do some searching in projects... you'll need more than just engine mounts... tranny bellhousing adapter, electronics...

Besides mounts there arent any adapters to bolt the 5.0 to the 5spd nor the A4LD so you will have to use a V8 tranny.
Advance adapters sells conversion kits to allow you to swap in the 5.0 including engine mounts, transfer case adapter(if 4x4), headers, radiator, oil filter relocation kit, etc.. etc..

Dude, V8 in first generation's are SO over rated. Swap in a flux capacitor. It's good for the environment, and it's good for +/- time travel (meaning forward/backward in years).

Here's the kicker... TOTALLY SELF SUSTAINING. Just have to add the 88 onto the speedometer...

Sometimes when I go back in time - like 10 years... and think about all the discussions we had here on this forum... back then we tried body lifts, we were replacing gears, installing lockers... nobody knew nothing back then - we were all the beginners - it's all so easy now since it's all been done long, long time ago. Ever since Ford introduced a V8 into the Explorer or maybe even earlier people were tinkering with different options of what to do, what engine to use, how to fit it under the hood... it was a lot harder for them since they had to do it all by themself - there were no kits - all electronics and controls had to be made from scratch...


it's so much easier now...
