4ALD in 2nd gen explorer??

I have a brand new rebuilt 4ALD at home. it was rebuilt for my brothers ranger with heavy duty clutches/bands etc etc. My 4r55e has 200k miles and is slowly giving up on life haha. i know the 4ald will bolt up to the 4.0 but what else will be needed to make it work? im thinking a manual valve body and somehow disable the OD or wire a new switch. am i missing anything else that would be needed?

You will need an 86-87 valve body with a hydraulic pressure switch to control the solenoid. Check this link: http://www.transmissioncenter.org/new_page_1.htm

what about just a straight manual valve body where i just shift it myself? its a dirt only truck and will have a gate style shifter so id rather manual shift it.

We run a few c4s and c6s like this and it works very well in the dirt.

You could add a manual switch, but the hydraulic switch makes it fully automatic.
