I think at 175000 miles that my tranny is ready for a rebuild. I have a line on a '99 and 2000 4R70W from two AWD Explorers. If I could get one of them cheap enough I would like to buy one to have rebuilt while still being able to drive my X around. Are there any differences in the trannys from year to year that would not allow me to use one from a diiferent year than one from a '96? I have searched around and I haven't found any definate answers.

if you can find section525s 2wd to awd swap page you can see alot of the wirering differances. I cant seem to find it right now

My understanding is you can use the DTRS (dig trans range sens) from your 96 unit and no wiring changes will be needed.
I have 3 of these drivetrains, one 97 and 2ea 96 trucks. The pinout at the trans plug was slightly different on all 3! hahaha figures. ONe wire moved positions and the colors changed, both 96 trucks!

Also I was told by Baumman when installing my 4r70w that the signal fromt he DTRS actually changed. the early models are analog and the later one is digital (PCM will freak). My friend Jow ran into this when he installed his with the Buammenator controller, he was trying to use a 98 or so DTRS on a 96 trans, didnt work.

Other then that you should be golden, I think
