so i finally have all the parts minus dshafts to swap my 97 mounty to 4wd via the man shif t 4406 t case,, i have whole front diff hubs knuckles, everything from a 00 4x4 ex. my last hurdle is the trans. i have a tailhousing from a 98 mountaineer 4r70w awd and im wondering if i can just swap it onto my trans, which shifts and runs great or am i gonna have to go tranny shopping?? any help would be greatly appreciated as im about to start this journey next weekend hopefully! thanks, and ill have pics up soon.

You do need to swap the output shaft also. It is like the last part to come out of the transmission, so it might be best to get a 4wd transmission, same year will be easiest

the speed sensor is in the transmission on your 97, correct? if so you will need to use, and possibly modify the speed sensor on the 4406 transfer case.

thanks man,, thats what i was thinking,, i have a lead on a tranny so i might just sell my 2wd one and get the 4wd!

and yes it is on the tailshaft.
