My google fu is lacking today. I know its the standard 6 bolt pattern, but can't find the spline count of the tailshaft. Any help?

I'm going to say 31 spline.... Just like almost every other full size ford 4x4 trans.

Therein lies the rub. If its a 31 spline round pattern, why doesn't everyone just go to an NP205?

1) It heavy... you need to build a rear support so you dont snap the back of the trans in half.

2) Poor low range gearing... Its only 1.98:1.

3) Its over-kill for the application... It may be bullet-proof, but you're not running enough power in a heavy vehicle to really need something that strong.

4) You have to grind away part of the T-case flange to clear the shift rail.

I'm sure there are people who are using one and are happy with it.

I prefer overkill on large parts. I live within 2 hours of the 'con and fordyce, plus a yearly trip to the hammers. I would much rather have parts failures on easily "trail fixed" parts. I know the 4R70W is a beast, so I am not worried about that. Plus, when its time to upgrade, I can go with common inputs for a STAK or ATLAS application. Thanks for the help guys:thumbsup:
