4th Gen/General Mirror Installation on 3rd Gen

hi guys love what you have done,by swapping the old gay type mirrors for the 2006 type.....well my pass side left hand mirror hit a roo...oh by the way im in australia....steering wheel on the right side....we are british you know...lol....ahhhh any how i have just seaeched ebay for 2006 with power,puddle.....and guess what noooo one will send to good old oz....new price is ....wait for it $1100 each in oz dollars ....wrecker yards....if they have it $500 large....aaaagh..if any body knows of a site ....please lets know.........nat it looks real cool..............see ya

Which side is the convex mirror? (the one you can see further out of) If they are different than the U.S. model I doubt you would be able to swap em without someone making a custom glass/lense for you.

I'd say bugger it and bung 'em on. Get one of those little convex circles that attach with adhesive if it's a bother. Nothing beats a quick look over your shoulder anyway!

I really want to do this now. What kind of glue did you use to glue the foam back on?

The glue isn't necessary but I just used duco glue. It holds stuff in place good but if you ever need to take it back off for some reason it will come off fairly easy.

When you installed the driver's side mirror did you need to shave some plastic off the alignment nipple-like-thing at the top of the mount? Mine wouldn't go in all the way without shaving it off.

Did any gen 4 have the cutout mirror/blindspot mirror built in? (top outside of mirror) I have a 2011 E-150 that has them and I see them on the new explorers..

I had no issues with anything on the drivers side mirror. It bolted and aligned right up. Did you get aftermarket or OEM?

As far as I know there isnt a 4th gen mirror with those blind spot mirrors built in. I could be wrong

hi guys been bush....just got back to civilsation....i dont care what side is convex....in oz its the left side,passengers......i will stick a shaving mirror glass over the right side,drivers here.....mirror at bunnings around $2.95....ouch.......so guys where do i buy these 06 mirrors for my 02 ut???????????????? and will they post to oz??? cheers

Mine are OEM mirrors directly from a Ford dealership I order parts from at a steep discount.

I got it to work, It just took a little shaving with a utility knife.

I used aftermarket (Pilot) mirrors because they were cheaper... time will tell if that cheapness extends to the quality as well. But for now I'm super happy with it.

One question: The mirrors I got are heated (like the OEM ones are). How do I activate the heat? My X (2004 XLT) didn't have heated mirrors, and there's no button or anything. Is it automatic? Would I need to install an extra button?

i believe they are pre wired for heated. If so the rear defrost button will activate the heated mirrors
