Im driving along and I notice that the 4wd high and 4wd low lights are flashing on and off. I flashes a few times stops for a few minutes then starts to flash again. Any ideas what this might be? Thanks in advance!

Have you checked the fuses? You have a 4x4 fuse in the fuse box just behind your battery.

Here is a question for you. When I try to engage my 4x4 with the automatic switch nothing happens. I have a good fuse but get nothing on the light panel from either the high or low switches.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Bobby - you may have a bad speed sensor. Find a dirt or gravel lot and try putting the truck in 4x4 hi and lo and see what happens. If it doesn't work, may have more significant problem.

CTS - Can you hear the relay in the back of you X clicking when you push the switch? See the info about transfer cases here for more info - Dead Link Removed

I tried that and it does not seem to engage the 4wd. No light comes on for high or if you stick it into park and engage 4wd low no light nor any change in the way it drives. I guess it is sticking in 2wd. Could this be something as simple as the switch worn out or worse:((? Thanks for any help!

it says in the manual when that happens to go to the dealership. its happenning to me too and i called ford and they said to bring it in , that they have to hook it up to whatever machine and get the readouts from it. it probably needs to be oiled up or tuned up.

Thanks for all the help. I just pulled the relay out and put it back in and it seems to be working good for now, weird.

tplynch, mine only starts blinking after i get it in 4wd high on the road. After i shut the truck off, drive in 2wd for awhile it never occurs. I believe it could be the sensor. Are those hard to clean?

I haven't done it, so I can't say for sure, but from what I understand it's not difficult. I think there are 2 on the transfer case and they should just pop out. Look like little magnets I believe. There may be a thread with better info on how to R&R if you run a search.....
