4x4 - four wheel drive activation

:thumbdwn: Having a problem with my four wheel drive in my 1993 Explorer. It seems to adjust into 4x4 fine, however, i periodically hear a clunk from the front, as if something is slipping, every 100 meters or so. I believe the 4x4 is still active, but it certainly doesn't feel as secure on the road as it did before this problem started. I think the clunk is isolated to the driver side. The vehicle has the original auto-locking hubs. It has the push-button mechinism on the dash and seems to engage fine. I think the problem is up-front somewhere.

Any suggestions?

The auto hubs sound broken I'd switch to manual locking hubs. I went through about three sets of autos before switching, not a problem with manuals yet!

yah prolly the auto hubs...

most people here get the warn manual hubs to replace them... cheaper and more reliable...
