Welcome to Serious Explorations!

We do have troubleshooting information for the 4x4 system right here.

A reasonable guess would be the broken stop in the shift motor... very common. At any rate, please check out the information and pictures there, and if you don't find what you are looking for, post back here and somebody will be happy to help you.

Again, welcome!

I attempted the rebuilding of mine, I am 100% sure I done everything correctly but had no luck getting it to shift into four wheel. I just took time as the guys at Advance auto gave me the correct size hose to put in place of the cheap factory piece that appeared to be made out of hardened wax to me. :p:

Saving my pennies for a manual transfer case swap. :)

Either way, I wish you luck with yours.

My four wheel "stuff" didn't work when I first received my 1992 EB 4X4. The 4X4 select Computer also clicked as did yours but no 4 wheel drive. A quick check of the mechanical stuff was to remove the selector motor (I didn't want to have it just hanging down) and to select 1st) 4 wheel hi with a pair of pliers/vice grips, and try the four wheel drive. Then, I selected 2) four wheel lo and tried it. Both worked. I than rebuilt the drive selector motor and the selector post (plastic/nylon) buffer and while it would work with the pliers, it did not even turn when the power was applied through the left, rear, control box. A quick trip to the local pick-Ur-Parts and I replaced the 4 X 4 Computer for $15.00. Eureeka! I had 4 X 4. I have since replaced the automatic hubs with manual Warn hubs but otherwise, everything is stock. Good Luck.

This may be a bit late but, if you take the shift motor off and the stop bumper is ok or if you replaced it put the motor back on. Push the 4HI button, crawl under the truck and remove the shift motor. You have to mark the shift motor where the triangle piece is pointing, look on the transfer case and you will see ( I am going by memory here so it may not be 100% accurate) at the top of the circle is 4LO, going counter clock wise is 2HI then 4HI. The actuator on the transfer case should be pointing at 4HI, it is probably not. Use pliers to move the actuator so it snaps into 4HI, mark the case with felt pen. Plug the shift motor harness back in, do not bolt the motor to the trany case, move the sensor plate on the motor left or right a small amount, push the 4x4 button, the motor will move its actuator a small amount, If you moved it the right amount in the right direction then you should be able to put the shift motor back on, It will line up with the actuator on the transfer case. 4HI will most likely work. I know this may look confusing but if you read it and look at the parts it should come together. Clear as mud. :p: If you think about it what is happening is, the control tells the shift motor to go to 4HI. It moves the motor and stops, control thinks it is at 4HI position, but it has not moved far enough to move the actuator to put case in 4HI therefor will not engage. Mark the position of the actuators so you can see where the actuators are pointing when you put the motor back on. :chug:
