92' ford explorer 4x4...My 4x4 push button switch has small bulb that lights up the two buttons that are pushed in to activate the 4x4 and low ..this light set's in the back of the module with a white holder that has a cross hatch to turn it so it can be removed..it is burned out..Ford says they don't have the light bulb seperate....sell me a whole module, no thanks..has anyone had a simular problem with this light?....I can replace the bulb, but I have no idea of what the spec's or model numbers are ..and the ford parts service rep could not help find it...any help is greatly appreciated..

Hunting around the site a while ago i found the specs for a 91 X that are from the factory service manual, so I downloaded and saved the info just in case I needed it. It said that you need bulb "4x4 hi & low indicator lamp - 194" I think that we're talking about a standard bulb that you can replace in the housing. If it helps, this is the same bulb that is used for just about all your indicator lights, as well as your glove box, and license plate. At least... it is for a '91. Hope this helps, good luck.

4x4 and low light

Hey..thanks for "exploring"......unfortunately, the light inside the push button switch is no where large enough to accept that bulb...the switch has three very small lights inside it...two seperate tiny bulbs, one each for the orange round indicator light to the right side of the button, that is lighted when engaged... if looking at the selector switch as it is turned around after removing it from the dash...there is a white round bulb recepticle that accepts a flat head screw driver that turns 90 degrees. This releases the bulb recepticle....This tiny bulb looks like a two pronged flash light bulb....... but it does not have any spec's or model numbers on it...or indication of amperage ..maybe this will help describe which bulb it is a little better...thank you

Take it into a shop? That seems to be the easiest thing to do, unless someone else knows.

4x4 light

Yes...you would think they would know....see my first post...I guess most people spring for a 200.00 module for a burned out bulb...I fixed the 4x4 actuator motor..for nothing, just labor, thanks to a great post on this site...I'll try some different amp bulbs that are simular, I found at radio shak..we'll see

Yeah, sorry... I meant just the bulb itself into Lordco or Pep Boys or whatnot... but Radio Shack bulbs should work. Did you check the fuse for the amperage?

4x4 explorer bulb

thanks guys....got the radio shack bulb to work..yeah...I'll look around for one that's a tad brighter, and larger so I can slip the green rubber cover over it...gives the 4x4 and low that green color ...now I know they'll work...Yeah...

i have a 92 4x4 and the low range bulb is burnt outif you would send me the specs on the bulb if u dont mind i didnt even know you could replace the bulb thats the best news iv had all day thanks my email is pontiacspeed98@yahoo.com

I would expect that IF it's only the bulb.....then one could de-solder the old one out......and re-solder a new one in.

So. problem is what bulb to use?

Could you take the whole thing down to Radio Shack type place and have then figure it out? Don't forget to tell them it's for your car 12v system.

I'm thinking (dangerous) that the bulb maybe a LED.

It that worth a try? Well to save $$$......maybe. Or, get one (module) from the junk yard.

Aloha, Mark

Well, pulling a module from a junk yard seems to be a big pain in the ass for such a simple sounding thing. I'd say that it might be better to just try a few different bulbs at radio shack that 'eyeballed' are the same size. Then post that size here so that others can fix it faster without the guess and check method that we went through. Good luck!

Some of the switches for fog lights, rear wiper and rear defroster are that way also. The bulb is non servicable and you have to replace the whole switch. That is unless you read these forums then you open the switch up, cut the leads for the old bulb and solder a new bulb in for $0.79 and stick it to the man.

Ford dealerships always a rip off, but I am trying to find the same bulb do you know what size and model number for the 4x4 light bulb?

Hey where did you get the bulb for the 4x4 light indicator and what size? I have been trying to find that bulb.

Nice post! Thanks for that

The wires aren't as thick as the stock bulb but it works.
