Hi,
I've used this site for 5 years now, had a heck of a time registering again, but I'm on now. I'm in Mexico, and a long way from being able to get a replacement part. I have replaced my #%//((8** auto hubs already. Three months later it won't go into 4X when I push the %43$%$% dash button. I've read all the threads about redoing the motor/brushes/plastic bumper. When it first happened, I went to the check relay where the rear window washer resevoir is, pushed the button and the red light stayed on. Just for fun I went and pushed the 4X switch on the dash and it went into 4X! That worked for a week, I use it alot, getting out of my driveway can be tricky! Now it won't go into 4X again, I tried the same thing with the check button and I don't get any light, blinking or solid. From this I gather that the problem is in that switch/module on the dash. Now for my questions. Is there some way to jump the switch on the dash to get it into 4X and back to 2 wheel? At this stage I don't care if it is pretty. And if there isn't a way to jump it, where can I order one of these things? I can't seem to find a place on the web that carries it.
Thanks,
Rick

This site is fantastic!

Thanks for the tip on ebay. Haven't visited for a while and had given up on my power windows untill I just read the thread on replacing the bushings. Now if someone can just tell me how to bypass that dashboard switch for 4X4, or if a replacement module can get to me before it rains.......
Thanks again,
Rick

You can manually switch it to 4wd by getting under the truck and moving the lever on the t-case with a wrench or whatever tool is easier for you.

Your problem might also be the shift motor on the t-case. That is more common than the switch itself.

You indicate you have been "Overriding" the shift motor, by pressing the test button the 4x4 controller in the trunk area, followed by pressing the dash switch... I didn't know this would work like this.. Anyway if the RED LED on the 4x4 controlller fails to come on it indicates a problem with the 4x4 controller... I would remove the neg cable from the battery to reset the 4x4 computer and see if that does the trick... I would also visit the Shift Motor Rebuild Thread and clean up and rebuild your shift motor to get it working properly as the method you've been using may be causing the controller unit to fail...

Thanks, I got the thing to go into four wheel just once by hitting that button in the back. When I got it to work, the thing just glowed red, no blinking. I thought I read that that indicated the dash switch wasn't working. It doesn't do anything now. I am going to get that switch on ebay and will probably get under and redo the motor as well, just curious about whether it is possible to connect a couple of those prongs in the connector plug on the dash and get a quick fix? The weather usually cooperates here enough till August where I don't have to have it, just an inconvience.

To properly test the module you need to remove the 8-wire and 5-wire connectors. Turn the ignition to the run position, but don't start it. Then push the button. If the light flashes then the module is good. If the light is steady then the module has gone bad and needs to be replaced. If you test it with the connectors in place, it will not be accurate. This test is only for the control module in the back compartment. It doesn't test anything else.

Thanks again, I will check it out today removing the wires!
Rick

I took off the negative battery cable for an hour, hooked it back up, removed the two wire connections off the module, put the ignition to run and hit the button. Nothing, no blinking, no solid red, no color. Do I need this module too?
Thanks,
Rick
