'97 XLT
I've been looking for a replacement for the '99 XLS I wrecked and ran across a 5.0 2000 XLT on cars.com. It has 82k miles, looks okay and they're asking $3995. But one of the photos shows the Auto/4 Hi/4 Lo button on the dash. I thought all 5.0s were either 2wd or awd, but not 4wd. Am I wrong?

got a link to the vehicle on cars.com? or post the pic?

ur right if im not mistaken but im 99.9% sure ur right.

If it has the switch and it's functional, it's not a 5.0. If it's a 5.0L 4x4, it could not have had a selectable transfer case from the factory. Guaranteed. If you can link to the listing or post the VIN from it, I'm sure we can tell you what's amiss in the listing.

I'm guessing it's this one...

If so, the listing dealer's a putz... either he used pics of the wrong vehicle, or a previous owner changed out the trim bezel around the stereo. I'm wondering if they may have broken the old one, or the old one was busted in a stereo theft, or if maybe they added fog lights to an XL... It is, in fact, a 5.0L XLT though....

If you were to go look at it, look closely for signs of damage around the stereo opening. I'd even take a small 1/4" socket set, remove the two screws over the HVAC controls, and pop the trim panel off to see what's connected to what behind it... That's not a stock trim piece though.

Edit: busted!!! Something ain't right there...

Note the mileage on the odometer...

Note the badge on the tailgate... (the one whose VIN he listed is an XLT, not an XLS)

Note the tag hanging from the mirror...

I think he's got the wrong pictures listed in the ad... I think the XLT should also have the high series center console that runs from front to back, not the short XLS console with the ash tray in the dash.

That shows pics of an XLS and Thought all XLS's were only 4.0 option. But listing header says XLT...

To the best of my knowledge, you are correct. I don't believe the V8 was ever available in the XLS trim... More importantly, the VIN called out in the description is definitely an XLT from the factory. Those pics, clearly, are not of the same vehicle. The VIN and description are for a V-8 AWD, XLT, and the pics are a V-6, 4x4, XLS... Clearly not the same vehicle...

reread the first post he said he found an XLT not an XLS

I did read the first post... You need to read the rest of the thread.

The one I linked to was the only 2000 V-8 Explorer I found on Cars.com with roughly 82,000 miles and listed for $3995. Furthermore, the VIN shown in the listing comes back to a V-8 XLT, not the V-6 XLS shown in the pictures, and the mileage in the images doesn't match up with the mileage in the listings. I'm confident that was the ad he was referring to.

David i would check out craigslist.org there are plenty of explorers for sale here in NC on there

i have a 2000 xlt 5.0 and it does not have the selectable switch for the transfercase. the middle console is all wrong too. it looks similar to my 94 eddie bauer interior, except this is fabric. some one messed up somewhere.
