1998 AWD Mountie: can the intermediate oil pump shaft be removed/reinstalled through the "distributor hole"? If so, how? I recently changed the Cam Sync Gear, and the scribe mark on the engine housing was off about 1/16", due to a possiby twisted intermediate oil pump shaft. Truck runs great with no CEL, but more research after the procedure finds that the shaft should have come out with the old Cam Sync Gear, but it did not. Info and opinions please.

It will come out of the distributor hole, if it doesn't come out with the cam sensor you will need either a magnet or mechqnical fingers to fish it out. JUST DON"T DROP IT. If it's twisted it might be hard to get out of the oil pump..
