5.0 swap for 4.0

searched and found some threads but - has anyone done this?
w/150K on the 4.0 - and needing cam cartridge replacements - one option is to drop an old (rebuilt) 302 in there.
my '01 has a 5sd manual and 4x4 - will the transmission bolt up to a 302?
i'd go completely non-computerized - 4bbl carb, mallory distributor, replace the electric FI fuel pump....

thoughts / comments / real-life experience?????

Eric^s truck is sweet, do that. You can remove the trans function from the PCM if you have to use a manual(different from your current trans). Good luck,
