5.0 tranny into 4.0???

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but I figure it's worth a shot.

If I can't fix my reverse (or lack of) issue on my 4.0 automatic 4wd, can I take the tranny out of my wife's 5.0 auto 4wd that has a dead motor and swap the two?

I really do wish it was that easy for you but no, it isn't possible.

Does the 4.0 explorer go into high gear ( 2200 rpm's at 65 mph) 2500 or higher RPM's at 65 MPH would indicate no high gear.

What is dead on the v8? I'd go for fixing it first if the v6 gets you around.

Yes, high gear is working...2200 rpm at 65.

When this first happened, I was out fishing and had to use 4wd hi for a bit. Afterward, it wouldn't do anything in either Drive, or Reverse. Putting it in 2nd would get it to go through all forward gears, including High. After driving approximately 100 miles home, I could get it to work in Drive, but still no reverse.

And yes, overdrive is working. At 65, it jumps from 2200 rpm to 3,000 rpm when I shut of the OD.
