5.0L V8 in a 3rd gen

my friend has an old run down explorer that he never drives with the 96-01 5.0 liter v8... wondering how hard it would be to drop it into the 3rd gens or if anyone has done this

I doubt anyone has done it since the 3rd gen has the 4.6L option.

It was big with ranger's there were kits and everything. considering the 2.9 was a big POS hooked to a A4ld another big POS it was a viable option to the junk yard. You have a sweet x now, i wouldnt look for trouble. Get that 96 jack her ass up put some beefy diggers on her and go muddn.

yea i talked to a friend and he said it gets very complicated when u switch with something thats outdated and the electronics r diff.... rite now that old explorer wont even start so maybe we'll make it into a trail rig and actually get it to turn over... sounds like fun

You want a 5.0L in a 3rd Gen? It can be done, do what I did. Big Bore the 4.6L and end up with 5.0L
