How do I remove the planetary gear from the drum assembly front brake and coast clutch to replace the clutch plates. I have the atsg manual but I do not see how to remove the planetary so the clutch plates can be replaced.

The planet shouldn't be stuck in the drum, it should just come right off. There may be something wrong is the drum that has the planet stuck. Maybe insert the small input shaft through the drum and into the planet and hit it with a mallet or bump it down on a table to get the drum to come off.

As far as just replacing the sprag, I don't see why you can't just replace it and not do a complete rebuild. You will have to make sure that the hub and planet race that the sprag uses isn't damaged. The biggest issue with not tearing it all the way down is that just don't really know if there are more issues or not.
