Large drip pan funnels allow you to use a regular pan:

Thanks for your support. I couldn't wait to get home from work and see if you responded! I'm ordering a gasket and shift kit tonight (already have the B&M drain plug). I'm hopeful that it's the gasket because when I first dropped the pan to check the solenoids, several of the bolts were not torqued to spec. I'll keep all posted on my success or disappointment!

Where? From Ford? Couldn't find on aftermarket sites. How much?

Torrie at FastPartsNetwork can get you the correct sep plate and FORD TSB mod kit, or your local FORD dealer can as well. It is about $30 for the plate and kit.

Thanks for that fascinating link.

[ALLBERT !! Here is some of what you wanted to know... now this is not the 5R55E patent, obviously, but is does describe the system used there.]

5R55E O/D Problem Solved

Thanks for posting a link to that website! It has a lot of useful information. As far as sources on those separator plates, check WWW.FastPartsNetwork.Com, WWW.BulkPart.Com, WWW.Axiom.Com, and WWW.TransmissionPartsUSA.Com.

Hopefully, this is the final installment of this saga! I installed the Transgo shift kit, new EPC solenoid, gaskets, and the B&M drain plug today. I ordered my parts from WWW.TransmissionPartsUSA.Com because I had good service from them on the OSS sensor and Axiom took a week to give me a logon password. The VB was very dirty, but no sign of a blown gasket. I did find the small piston/plug behind the coast solenoid had slipped out from the L retainer and was ****eyed in the bore, keeping the solenoid from fully seating. Also, the front band was about a turn too loose. Glacier991's photos of the L retainer locations and the relief valves were a godsend! On the test drives, the tranny shifted smoothly into O/D and RPMs dropped down to 1600 at 50 mph and 2500 at 70 mph. Can't wait to check the gas mileage improvement. Total cost of repair was $225 including two fluid changes.

I want to especially thank Dogfriend, Allbert, Brooklyn Bay, Bigg Billy, and Glacier991 for the great advice (hope I didn't miss anybody!). :chug:
