5R55E Transmission interchange?

Hey guys. My transmission went out in my 01 Sport Trac 4x4 and I need a new one. Its the 5R55E, just wondering if they're all interchangeable? Looking on eBay most say it wont fit my vehicle but I know they're probably wrong. Just trying to get some info before I buy the wrong one.

Manual transmission will swap in

you can put a m5od in thats a manual but the 5r will only interchange with a 5r55e someone on here i remember swapped to a 5r55s i think it was devan maybe??? i think c5 will fit? (question mark on that one) c3 is weak but i suppose i think the bell housings swap? c4 has no TC lockup i think

5r55e from a 99-11 ranger will work
Or from a 99-01 explorer mountaineer, or 02-05
Sport or sport trac


Those all used the 5r55e
After 98 there are two oss sensors so make sure your new trans is from a 98+

The 5 speed manual conversion has been done a billion times

Other trans that can swap in would be a 3 speed c5 auto (based on the old c4 auto)
No thanks 3 speeds lol

Or a 700r4 /4l60e chevy trans but you are gonna pay
Big $$$ to get one of those in there and maybe still not the best results

You can always remanufacture uour 5r they can be built

Conversion is actually legal

Sohc owners will
Not be happy with a stockish 5.0’swap usually the sohc makes more power and has 5 speeds
The 5.0 will feel anemic, so the 5.0 needs some power adders

The big benefit here is longevity and toughness of course with a 302 sky is the limit of the power it can make

I have a 02 sport trac, can I still do this engine swap with the original trasmission or no? If not, are there any other engines I can put in that are also pretty hardy and have similar power to the original?

yes you can put a 5.0 in. you cant use the 5r55e, you use the 4r70w. the v8 is your best bet to have comparable power & the best longevity. best part is use a complete v8 2nd gen donor & its as close to plug & play as a complete swap can get
