'97 Exp 2WD with 150k miles, no-movement problem - replaced valve body gaskets and now all gears work except OD, 1st and Rev. Drivable with the start out in manual 2nd and shift to D at 35mph routine, no flashing OD light...
I'm thinking of saving the new tranny fluid, pull it down and replace the OD sprag. My understanding is that the OD drum/sprag is right in front.
> Do I have to remove valve body again ?
> Can I just start truck and pump out trans fluid from return line to drain it and save fluid, or will the pan still be full ?
> If you were going to try this - any other parts/seals you know will need replacement - because they're going to be damaged from disassembly ?
> Is this a rational approach ?
> Looking for service information - rebuild manual ?
Truck is my daughters, might be worth $750 after tranny is repaired, not good enough condition for complete trans rebuild. I know the risks of success might be less with this approach - I don't mind doing the labor, have to draw the line somewhere with cost.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
David
