5r55e valve body replacement & questions.

They are a slip fit, the bracket just keeps them from coming out, so some play is normal. You are doing the right thing by replacing the valve body, it's the only way to eliminate the valve body as the problem, hope it fixes your problem, but if it doesn't a rebuild and converter replacement is needed.

If you can get a magnetic inline filter go ahead and put that in the return line

Thanks for the feedback on the movement, and yeah I hope this cures my problem as well. Just don't wanna rebuild a trans w/240k on it that's bolted to a motor w/240k as well, even though the motor is still very strong w/no issues... step by step from here on out I guess, only time will tell the fate of the 97, sad to say.

Didn't get much done today after I posted except went and got a filter and some fluid. Setting up for the daughters bday party and getting her swingset and stuff built so truck went on the back burner.

Thanks again.

I have a external filter right under my trans cooler, guess another one(especially magnetic) wouldn't hurt any. Good call doom.

Oh, the filter you have should be fine, I missed that.

Didn't miss it, wasn't posted till then, sorry. but that is a good idea, I like the sound of it. A external magnetic filter would make a great addition to the trans since I found those slivers. Glad you mentioned it, didn't even cross my mind.

If I can prevent slivers from reaching vital parts, im up for it.

Well truck is on the back burner again. Tried to flush the trans and could not get a steady stream to come out. It would piss some out for a few seconds then start to trickle. Got a couple vids of what its doing, just haven't uploaded them yet.

I don't know what im gonna do now, might just drive it till it goes out and swap a different trans in it at that point. Hate to scrap the truck w/a good motor but im about to that point as well...........

Where are you trying too pump the fluid out before or after your filter, if after the filter, it may be clogged also you must keep the pan full in order to pump fluid out. Here is a method of how to do it.

I am trying to flush before my remote filter next to the cooler. I believe I have it set up where it runs from the trans, to the IN inlet on remote filter then through the coolers and back to the trans. I could be mistaken tho, its been about 3 yrs since I installed the remote filter. Gonna have to figure it out. If it helps any, I am disconnecting from the hard line closest to the driverside, looking from the front of the truck, line on right.

I even disconnected both lines and watched for the one that pissed out (which was the rubber line I disconnected from my remote filter, when it would flow out that is). But honestly fluid came out of both lines a few times, one more powerful than the other, but like I said, it would piss then slow to a trickle.

On a side note, took the truck for a drive, shifted fine, even 5th. Had a few slips then flashing O/D while reversing (felt like it was gonna stall as well), shut truck off and restarted it and reset the flashing O/D.. I think I might be off on the reverse/low servo, either that or the old gasket is leaking. Didnt get new gasket yet. By the end of my test drive it cleared up i believe. Reversed up the long driveway and into the garage.

Thanks for the link.

Kinda wondering if I had a flushing problem because I didn't really run the truck to refill everything before I tried to flush(no test drive, just drive/reverse a few feet each way and let it idle for a bit). Think I am gonna try again 2morrow. Should have some free time.

Needs to be up to temp (~150F) before the valvebody thermostat opens up and you get full flow through the external cooling loop, no?

BK

Yeah I actually found a post saying something like that while doing some reading earlier. Gonna run it around the block (live in the country so about 5 miles) so its nice and warm and pull the line off. Hopefully get it flushed and change the filters one more time run it for a day or so (hasnt been driven at all really in quite awhile) then park it till I find out if I want to drive it till it dies or put the $ into it and hope its just the valve body/solenoids. With the metal I found, not sure if I caught it in time. So might be throwing my money away....

Wait, I should be trying to flush after the coolers (duh) so they get flushed too (got the kooler kleen for them as well), so I should actually be disconnecting the left line (closest to pass side) because that is the return line(?) back to the trans, correct?? Been a long week, think im confusing myself. I hate working on something then stopping for a week, only to try and pick up where ya left off. O well, day by day, trying to be optimistic lol.

Well no flush today. I did however run the 97 on a 35 mile trip. Noticed it still shifted fine till 5th, where you have to help it slide into 5th sometimes. I usually gauge my shifts on speed, but that is hard to do after my white face cluster swap. Must have the speedo off by 5mph. Gps reads 55mph when shifting to 5th which is normal for my truck, but the speedo reads 60mph shifting to 5th.

Other than the slow shift to 5th it is running good. Going to try and get it flushed 2morrow but w/it being fathers day it might go on the back burner again.

Will report back after the flush.

Happy fathers day to all the dads in the EF world.. can't wait for my steak dinner, yum... :salute:
