- 2005 Sport Trac Adrenalin
I have been searching everywhere I could for months trying to figure out how to put a winters shifter on my 2005 Sport Trac that has the 5r55e transmission. I couldn’t find anywhere of someone adapting (or at least talking about it) a winters shifter. Since I was successful on the install, I wanted to share every step so others can do the same if it’s what they wanted too.
I spent $200 on Summit Racing and ordered the Winters Shifter for the AODE/4r70 transmission option. (After more research, I feel the E4OD option would have been the way to go in order to save time custom making a shifter linkage) I ran the shift cable through a factory covered hole, and back towards the transmission over the T-case. I flipped my factory linkage arm and found it to be set at the proper angle for the shifter cable. (Factory cable pulls from the front, winters cable pulls from the rear). I was going to cut off the connector for the factory cable linkage and drill a hole to link the new cable to but the factory linkage arm was a lot tougher steel than my drill bits so I couldn’t drill a hole. I just cut the arm in half, welded on my own new connection, and it worked! Took quite a bit of struggle to get the cable adjusted properly to line everything up but it works just great! I hope this helps anyone looking to install a winters shifter on their 5r55e transmission.
