2002 Exp 4x4 5r55w 4.0l
Hey guys,

Been a longtime but kinda getting back into things and picked me up a 2002 exp 4x4 very nice and clean but got a great deal because trans is bad. I have tore it down with lots of pics but thought I would see if I could get some input here. The case hase the servo bore update so thats good. I am shopping for a master kit now but would like input on best kits out there (good complete kit no need for level 10 etc). As you can see I will need a new or good used front planet and forward ring gear and hub and sunshell assembly. I Have looked on ebay and have seen a few but if anyone knows of a good place to get used I am all ears. I can upload more pics but think I need to renew my membership. From looking at this I think that a bearing broke up and the little needles at this up... Massive grinding and of course the fluid was like black pee!!!!!!!!!!

Yikes! Any transmission shops in your area? They'd have a bunch of good used parts kicking around, likely good quality rebuild kits too.

Yea There are some That are around I have rebuilt several trans just been a while just wanting to see what other peoples thoughts are especially on the rebuild kits that area out there. I can prob find the hard parts as well locally. I did have a transmission guy quote me 1150.00 to rebuild mine includes solenoid pak,TC and updates my problem is that trans shops tell you this and that but what did they really do(of course there are some great shops out there but some not so much) Thats why I would rather do it myself but at 1150.00 Thats not much more than i would prob spend myself.

I suppose some shops don't want to sell parts, they want to rebuild the trans. I would do it myself too but that is a pretty good price.

$1150 is a good price, that's not a simple fix - I would let them do it and get some kind of warranty

Just wondering what the inside of your transmission filter looked like. The VB and the whole trans is probably full of chunkies now. I guess you will have to completely pull the VB apart to make sure it's OK. Paying for the rebuild is looking better.

yikes that's what happen to my '04 back around 50k. . .Snap ring broke . . . Front planetary destroyed itself and took out the drum. I took it to my trans guy who rebuilt it. On the invoice new Planetary was a couple of hundred alone.

Well decided to go ahead and rebuild myself the only damage thus far was the fron planet and the planet ring gear and hub I suspect the thrust bearing failed as it was broke up and then destroyed the above. I found the od planet and front planet and the rear planet all hubs bearings and washers for 260.00 and got my kit with all new bands for 307.00 just need to get a TC and fluid and should be in under 800.00 if course need to test solenoid pak and disassemble the VB clean and check it out.
