6x9's for '98 sport???

This is my first post, message board has been very helpful already. Dont really know a whole lot about audio. I'm planning on getting some new speakers for my 98 Explorer Sport, and also a new HU a little later on. I dont have premium sound or anything, just the basic 4 5x7/6x8 set up I guess. Reason I'm posting is because I'm just wondering if I could go with 6x9's instead of a 5x7/6x8. Simply because you can get more peak power out of a 6x9. Please give me some help on this, if im wrong on anything let me know! Thanks guys!

In the rear you could trim to fit 6x9's... not gonna happen in the front though. if i remember right, the window track its right near the speaker opening so trimming wouldn't work very well

i fit 6.5" speakers in the front of my truck and my dad's mounty though. so thats always an option

The amount of peak power that a speaker can take is useless, look at the RMS rating and if you are only planning to run these off a HU (even an aftermarket one) then almost any aftermarket speaker can take more power then the HU can put out.
