Hello,

Project Army Bauer has stumbled onto a possible oppertunity...

I got my hands on some front and rear 3.73 axles (rear with LS). FMExplorer is putting on his 5" lift soon and will have all sorts of factory 4wd suspension parts..

I already read the tech doc on the manual conversion.

Lets assume I'm going to attempt a Auto 4wd conversion... What are the biggies?

T-case?
Electronics? (dash switches, harneses, etc)
Drive shafts?

I'm not too serious but since it appears that I may have 30% of the parts it is worth looking into. Problem being that I will end up spending even more money by having to add a 5" lift also..

Any thoughts or feedback would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks
hg

Ok, here is another thought on the same subject.. I received some e-mails on this issue already.

It is amazing what you junk you guys have in your garage.. I missed a manual t-case and trans by 1 week...

2wd auto to 4wd manual conversion?

Feedback appreciated....

Hank,

What I have looked in to on the auto Tranny. I would look to see if you could find a 4x4 auto tranny install it with a Manual T-case and a New Rear drive shaft. Do the Front End work like what in my write up.

The Thing is I am not sure how many parts are different from the 2wd Auto to the 4x4 auto. I know the Oil pan is Different between the Two transmissions so who knows what else there might be.

Good Luck.

Thanks Kris,

In researching this I am starting to find sorts of those little details.

I'm going to put it off for now. If I get serious about it again it looks like the best way to do it is to go out and buy a wreck or high mileage ex. Have seen them ranging for 600-2000 depending on damage/mileage.

First thing is to get the Army Bauer painted, then track down a 3.73 with LS.

Thanks
hg
