I just installed a class three, but now the tail pipe is rubbing against it causing a vibration through the frame.

As you know there are two mufflers on 91 - 94, a big one and a little one over the axle. I was going to have the tail pipe rerouted out the back like the 95 and 01, but started thinking....do I need two mufflers? My 97 F-150 only has one large muffler.

This seems like it could gain some horsepower.

I only have 1 muffler from the cat back. Tailpipe rubbed a bit, but nothing a little "persuading" with a hammer or torch couldn't fix!

i too only have 1 muffler......

I guess this was only on the 91 - 92 Explorers. I have a large muffler infront of the rear axle and a smaller one hanging over the front of the rear differential. From there it's just pipe out to the back.

jimabena,

I saw your pictures of the Flowmaster. Very nice work!

Who did the pipe out the back, or did it come that way? I want to keep my stock muffler for now (have a warranty through Midas on it) but would like to get pipe out the back exactly like you did yours.

the muffler shop i went to did it. i just told them i want it to come out around here and said with a slash cut and just bellow the bumper and next to the hitch....it was Speedee Muffler in Fremont, Ca....96 bucks to weld in the custom pipe that they bent on site and muffler that i already had.

I know what your talking about I have the smae thing on my 91. seems logical if there as only 1 you wou ld get less restriction@!

I noticed that Ford skimped a quarter inch off the exhuast tubing from 92 to 93. My 92's old exhuast system was made out of 2.25 inch tubing and my 93 got 2 inch. Basically those of you with the 91-92 could just cut out the stock muffler and stick a flowmaster (or whatever your brand is) in the system and save yourself some bucks on the 2.5inch tubing and the labor to put it in. I really don't think anyone short of the supercharged folks is going to see any difference between 2.25 and 2.5. On the other hand the 2 inch stuff on my 93 just "looks" a little whimpy. From what I can tell; that second "muffler" is just a can, when the pipes on my 92 rusted through at that point I found 2.25 pipe running all the way through the thing, probably not much restriction and it shouldnt make much of a difference if its there or not. Not sure if this holds true all the way across or just how it worked out for me.
