input shaft feels like the teeth are all ground off. is there a common problem of failure with these transmission's?

can we go to a auto salvage yard and get another one?

Most common problem is the slave cylinder fails.
Sounds like you already have the trans out, what were the symptoms that caused you to pull it?
Which engine do you have?

brother said it acted like the clutch was out, and it was ok.... but put a clutch in anyway.
i believe he's changing the slave too.

he didn't know if he could simply go and get a used one.

anything else he should check or replace?
