92 A4LD Tranny Cooler Lines...HELP

Welllllll.....we swapped out the transmission, it;s all in, having some trouble on the cooler lines, that are aluminum, I got the top one in and the bottom one is still needing to go in, is there extensions, or rubber tubing I could run or any tips for anyone in the know? I appreciate Thanks Alot

Odd that the stock ones do not fit. You can add a piece of rubber fuel line hose to extend. Ideally you will want to run it onto the ends of the tubing a couple inches and use two band clamps on each side for added insurance against it coming off or leaking.

Actually you want to use rubber hose that is designed for tranny cooler lines (it is different than fuel line).

I think he was referring to fuel injection hose which is rated higher than ordinary fuel line hose which is used in carbureted systems.

No actually I was referring to fuel line hose, and I thank Mr. Boyle for the correction. I too am always learning. I hate to give out incorrect advice and appreciate it when folks point out my mis-statements. Thanks Mr. Boyle. Is that something readily available at a usual jobber's store?

I've found that its a crapshoot to find rubber transmission line at the local chain autoparts stores, some have it, others don't. Jobber stores (the stores that shops buy from) seem to carry them (at least the two I've been to)..

Well Since I have two Explorers, I bought an extension, something short enough to be able to get on, then I took it and cut the flare off the end, got the stock tubing that goes to the cooler lines to begin with, before it goes to metal, cut some of that off, and hose clamped that **** on! That is temporary though, I am getting some brake line metal tubing, and compression fittings, and wha-lah!

Fuel line will actually work, but it isnt designed to be used as cooler line. Tranny cooler line is made a little different (different reinforcement, material, etc....) and will last a lot longer and seal a lot better than fuel line (plus its designed to work with the oil used in transmissions).

NOTE: Fuel line can be used in a pinch to repair a cooler line, but it should only be considered a temporary fix!

Alrighty! I am using brake line though, steel, same thing as a tranny line, so I am pretty sure, and so is my parts guy that we are going to be AOK
