Thank-you for welcoming me to this site and your helpfull info. Whats the easiest way to remove t.c.?

I'm there. 4 bolts holding converter ? Best way to get it out ? Through starter hole ? Thank-You very much for your expertise and help!!
 Bolts off and out that is.

There are 4 nuts. You might want to replace them since they are special locking nuts which sometimes don't grab as well if you reuse them. You could go through the starter pocket, and the block off plate on the opposite side which is held in place with 2 bolts.

Any other very helpfull hints? Its 31 degrees out there and the less time Im out there the better!! Thank-you and have a good new years!!:salute:

Thanks for your help today as it saved me quite a bit of time. Exhaust manifold was a pain in the butt though. Have you ever been able to get one out without removing them?

The exhaust is in the way, so removing the catalytic converter is the only way to get it out without being a magician like Houdini.:D How long did it take to remove it? Did you have to cut the bolts? Did you have difficulty with the top 2 bolts? Make sure that the catalytic converter is fully seated into the bell housing when you reinstall it.

I'll make sure the tourque convertor is seated well into the housing. The whole thing took a few hours to get out. Didnt cut any bolts just skinned a few nucks. Everything came loose luckily with the o'l reliable cheater bar! What a tight squeeze tho. I'll start to put the rebuilt in in the morning. Thank you for your help !!:salute:

Use anti seize lubricant on the exhaust bolts to make them easy to remove just in case you would have to remove them again. You will have to adjust the kick down cable, and the shift linkage when it's installed. It's too bad that it's so cold out, otherwise this could have made a nice how to install/swap a transmission article with pictures. They sell portable car tents which would come in handy in situations like this to help keep out some of the cold air while working outdoors.

Today was a much better day! Transmission went in smoothly, made sure the torque converter was seated firmly in the bell housing which resulted in perfect alignment of bolts! Thanks for all the help yesterday, sorry i didn't take any pictures but then again i didnt think about it till it was too late... Hopefully it will be finished tomorrow with minor adjustments as all looks good so far!!!! Thanks again!:salute:

Nothing planned so far. Engine runs fresh @114k. Have another 91xlt parked in the drve that Ive been using as a parts rig. Drove it for 77k before was broadsided in th snow, bought it from the adjuster for 300. Son was out in the mud which ended in the loss of this current tranny. :us:
