I did the best thing ever and blew the head gasket on my explorer. I haven't had the chance to find out how bad the damage actually is but even before this happened I was thinking about putting a different motor in it. I know later versions of the explorer come with a 302 v8 and was wondering if anyone here has experience with this mod.

I'd suggest doing a search, it's well documented. Also look on The Ranger Station forum as the Rangers get a lot of 5.0 swaps.

The 4.0 will last a long time with a good set of new aftermarket heads (not reman'd units). Definitely an easier way of getting back on the road.

Alabama Cylinder Head is where I bought my complete heads for my 91 explorer. If you're good with tools. You can rip it down in a few hours and rebuild back in a good day. I did it in 6 hours going back, due to retorquing to specs.

Just an FYI.. Alabama Cylinder head is gone.. Info from the 'net says family dispute...

New company name is ProMaxx Performance...
