94 Explorer Frost Plugs

ok so my explorer just blew out a frost plug and its leaking coolant all over the place. How difficult are they to change? What all will i need to do?

Never did one but I suspect you just beat a new one in with a punch.
 






Hi:

Frost plugs are a friction fit item. Generally you clean the openning they go in and then tap them into place. The tricky part is to get them to go in straight. The idea is to not damage them going in or they will not seal properly.

Do you know why the frost plug popped?

Mostly freeze plugs don't pop just for no reason, my #1 concern would be why. In fact, I've been in car circles for well.... near on 20 years now and I can say it's rare I've seen one go unless something else major is wrong.. (or, as their purpose is, someone left water in a block and it froze)
 






ok nevermind, the one screw in the block heater was loose. but it looked like it was coming from a frost plug at first.
