Hi Everyone,
I just bought a 95 XLT with the low end cassette system and rear seat controls. I have a few simple questions and would really appreciate some help.

1) If I change out the head unit with the head unit with the CD changer controls from the same model year(s) and add a changer will I still have the rear seat control?

2) If I change to a stock head unit from the next generation of Explorers/Sport-tracs with the CD player in it I will obviously have to swap a few wires around as I have seen posted already. Will I still be able to control it from the rear seats?

Please let me know, thanks in advance..

Im pretty sure if you stay with a stock HU from and explorer, you will more than likely be able to control it from the rear seats. If you use anything aftermarket, you will NOT be able to use the rear controls.

Do you really use the rear controls anyway? I know in th 6 years of mine, I have not onced touched them except when purchasing the vehicle to make sure they work.

Welcome to this site man... Good Luck.

Hi MattStarr,
Thanks for the response. I don't have kids, but I do have skiing buddies, and the rear control would be nice when the radio has to be muted when "the other half" calls.

u can use the controll from the rear seats only if the hu has that option..so like if u get a 01 sport trac HU and it does have the back seat controlls u can swap it in and still use them......i dont know if it does or not but it just has to have the rear controll option and u wil have to get a lil creative with the wiring =)

I would go with an aftermarket HU and forgo the rear controls.

I too never ince used mine back when I had a stock HU.

Good luck.....
