Can someone with a 1996 - 1998 5.0 engine tell
me what size the radiator steel fan is? I need the diameter. I also need the width of the fan blades. In other words how "deep" is the fan. I checked at Ford and they cost about $65. Ford did not have the dimensions. I just want to make sure it will fit my project since I will have to order it and can not return it.

thanks,

18" x 3"

i will second that measurement, as that is excactly what my Stanly tape measure told me.;)

Thanks guys :D
I'm going to have to go for the 4.0 fan. It is
only 2" wide not counting the clutch.

Joe,

My metal 1996 V8 fan blade is only 2.125" (2 1/8)wide, 18" dia.

My 4.0 fan is pretty much the same dimensions as the V8 fan, but I think the V8 is an 8 blade, and the 4.0 is a 9 blade fan.

I think the 4.0 fan should work fine, try and see.

I'm not sure about the fan clutch however. The V8 fan clutch might engage at different temp. ranges. Again, try and see.

I had to replace my fan clutch (V8) I didn't find one at ANY junk yard in the Denver area. I ended up ordering one over the internet from "John's Auto Parts"

www.johnsauto.com

I searched on the internet, but ordered by phone. They were inexpensive and prompt.

Guy,

I ended up using the 4.0 fan. I did not use a fan clutch at all. It did require modifying the stock 4.0 fan to bolt to the 5.0 water pump. I used the stock mustang long water pump. So, you can see my challenge. I had used a flex fan before...that was $30 down the drain.

PS:
My wiring issue turned out to be that I had the 02 sensors crossed in the wrong pipes. That was a tough one to find. Running much better :-)

I just need to get my AOD tuned right and she's good to go.
