96 died / test driving a 01 for the weekend

The engine block on my 96 with 100k cracked. The local dealer has an 01 xlt almost identical to my 96. Whats the skinny on the 01 model ( sohc 6)

It ( of course ) drives nice w/ 26k miles

Please , all advise and comments welcome /
"the deal" goes down Monday if I can decide.

The sohc motors are okay but I prefer the old standby OHV or a V8 model.. The dealerships have done the recall on many SOHC that I've listened to and they still make noise.. Other than that, they're great trucks & engines in them.
