ok so my wife is driving the explorer thru the drive thru yesterday when she went to move forward the truck was dead. we ended up getting it to towed home. got it home and it wouldnt start it would crank over but no fuel. so i went and picked up a new fuel pump relay. i was gone maybe an hour. put the new relay in the truck ran like normal. took it for a ride around the block no problem. when i tried to start the truck 15 miutes later it was doing the same thing. now I cant figure it out. does anybody have any ideas. the truck is a 96 4.0 ohv 180,000 miles. any help would be appreciated. it my wife truck and she needs it.
oh and I already searched for about 4 hours last night. nothing that helps me so tahts why I am asking. thanks again.

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

A bad fuel pump, or fuel pressure regulator could also cause that type of problem.

I changed the fuel filter 6 months ago. I'm going to try and get a used fuel pressure regulator to see if it solves it before I go spend 100 dollars on a brand new one. I just got a new relay for the pcm and am going to try that and while i'm at it I'm going to see if there is fuel in the vaccum line for the FPR. if anybody has experienced this please let me know what fixed it thanks guys I appreciate it.

just wanted to let you guys know i figured it out. after trying for about an hour I decided to check the fuel cut off switch. it wasnt tripped. but I pulled the plug to look at it and one of the wires was pulled out alittle bit. so i pushed it all the way back in and tryed to start teh truck it fired right up no hesitation. I guess when my father in law reached for his wallet he stepped down there and pulled the wire out. they said it died about two seconds after he stepped there. so I am very relieved i dont have to change the pump. just wanted to let everyone know if they have the problem. thanks for looking and trying to help.

Glad everything worked out.
