Ok here it goes, I just bought a 96, 2x4, 6 cylinder, four door Ford Explorer and I have a couple questions. I had a 93 explorer for about 3 years so I already know a reasonable amount about the strange little add-ons that Ford threw in there but I don’t wanna splice first and ask questions later like I did with the last one.
Anyways it came with what seems like an aftermarket remote entry with “black eagle” on the remote, and even though I’m stoked because this is my first car with remote locks, I have some issues with it. The remote has two buttons, one that doesn’t do anything, and one that locks/unlocks the car. The lights flash when I use it but not every time, and I don’t know if I locked or unlocked it, also sometimes the remote just doesn’t work at all and I have to get really close. I was wondering if there was a way I could program one button to lock, one to unlock, wire the lock feature to my horn so it just lets out that little honk so I know its locked, and how I can fix the range problem.
Also the rear passenger side door power lock doesn’t work, what could be the problem there, it sounds like a stupid question but I don’t want to rip the side panel off until I know what to look for. and I love the car but the front bumper style seems a little dinky, and since I have never tried any body modifications I was wondering if anyone had some input on a kit I could install.
Last question, the 96 has the same thing that bugged me on my 93, behind the a/c control/vent, and radio, there is a (I think it's a six wire) plug that connects into nothing, I'm sure it's an accessory plug but for what accessory? Thank you for any help you can give me, I want to fix this car up and I can't even imagine how my fuses I blew and nights I spent experimenting with my last car so I want to do this one right.

"black eagle"? prbly an aftermarket keyless entry system or a generic key fob. if your explorer has a keyless entry keypad on the drivers door and/or the anti theft system you should be able to have it programmed to accept a ford factory key fob. i lucked out and scored 2 with an entire steering column from a salvage yard for $20. when i had called ford to purchase just 1 they wanted $65. but if you call them and give them your vin they can tell you if youre explorer can accept keyless entry. i've just never seen a ford key fob with black eagle on it with the type of buttons you described. mine just have lock, unlock, and panic. hope i could help ya out some.

You might check E-bay for a Ford FOB. I scored one for $12 delivered to my door.
