Hello,
Im going to be trying to buy a 97 4x4 XLT with v8 this weekend. Can anyone tell me what mileage I can expect, either epa estimate or actual experience? Will be taking some long trips with this one, so more interested in highway if possible.

Thanks alot guys

Welcome to the site! :)

You'll probably get anywhere from 16-21mpg. I get about 18/19 on the highway with my AWD.

mine gets about 13 in the city 17 on the hwy

"rated" for 12-18. I get 10-12 when I tow, 15-16 around town, and 18-19 on the highway. For me that wasn't until I went synthetic throughout.

the best i got on the highway was 23mpg.

When it was AWD?! Wow! I'd sign up for 23. Never seen it though. :(

everyday get 15. Long trips I get 18-19.

yes. It was in january 06, my first trip to badlands. I drove around 72 mph the whole way. Tires where at 45psi. The stoplights i got to ( only a couple) i accelerated from slowly and i coasted to the next. We are talking grandpa driving.

Calculate and compare after a fillup. Not too hard to figure your actual mileage in your head when you fill up the truck. I have a scanguage with a trip computer, and if reset after each tank, and adjusted occasionally, it is fairly accurate, but always slightly higher than the actual calculated mileage.
