97 mountaineer
My 97 awd mountaineer just rolled 150k miles and under a slight load, just at about 40 mph it will sometimes jump lightly, like a fishbite. I had it to the transmission shop and they could not make it happen. Seems like it needs to be on about a 15 min ride to happen. Any ideas? I would like to prevent any kind of catastropic failure if possible.. thx, mike...

Does it only happen on hills and under acceleration when tach is at or under 2K.

97 AWD question

Seems like I only recall it happening when driving a long slight incline. My tach only works sporatically so I do not know the exact rpms, but I would guess that it is probably around 2k. Acts like it doesn't know whether to go into overdrive or kick down to 3rd gear. Never noticed it before and I have driven that stretch many times... thx for any advice...Mike

Any body have any ideas or suggestions?
thx

this sounds stupid but check the driveshaft bolts. they might be a lil loose. i was getting a lil vibration and a lil jump in my moms 97 awd and then i checked the driveshaft bolts and sure enough they were loose. tightened them up and the problem went away really quick like and in a hurry. hope that's all the problem is.

You might want to check on your spark plugs. My X was doing the same thing at just under 2k RPMs and went away completely after changeing the plugs.

When was the last time you changed the trans filter?

Thanks for the suggestions. I will check this weekend.

I have been changing the transmission fluid and transfer case every 20k miles. Don't want to have to buy one of these babies!!

I also changed the Front and Rear differential fluids with synthetic to help prolong their life.

Again, thx for the suggestions.
