I am currently looking for a front and rear driver side doors for my 1997 explorer xlt. I am not having much luck finding any 97 year models in the local salvage yards, and due to the economy and me being a construction worker wondering if Im gonna still be working next week or not, cant bring myself to pay what other part companies are asking for their doors. My question is can anyone tell me what other year models can a swap out doors with? and is it possible to use mountaineer doors? and any info or tips on the process of swapping the doors would be greatly appreciated.
In case you are want to know what happened.....
A few weeks ago, while driving on west bound on I40 in Memphis, TN traffic was medium and rolling about 70 nascar style. I was in the fast lane, and there was a car broke down on the shoulder. and a small nobody company tow truck(with no lights or anything on) rolled past me on my right in the middle lane, and passes the car in front of me, suddenly jumping in front of the car in front of me, and slamming on his brakes(trying to get to the car on the shoulder). The car in front of me went side ways, and I wasnt stopping fast enough to not hit them, I couldnt bail out to my right due to traffic, and there was a car broke down on my shoulder, so I was S.O.L there. I lucked out, and was at a spot where the police normaly hide between the interestates sorta in the ditch between the east bound and west bound. I managed to miss all the cars, miss the cable, the guard rail, and the sign all on my side, and not flip the explorer, but conscidering I hit a grassy muddy ditch at about 70 I did slide into the back side of the guard rail on the east bound side. I did not total my truck, and It still drives perfect, but I did tear the Hell out of both of my doors, running board, and rear fender, and bent my bumper a little bit, and busted my rim. So two new doors and a running board will have it looking not perfect but 85% better. and no the tow truck never even tried to offer me help or ask if I was ok.
