I'm having a problem with my truck - v8 AWD, 150k - a few days ago I was sitting at a stop light, when I went to go the engine revved up past 3300 RPMs without shifting up to 2nd gear. I let off the accelerator and it immediatley shifted down. Through 2nd it did the same thing - revved past 3k and refused to shift until I released the pedal. And again into 4th... I was freaking out at this point.
I get to a gas station, turned off the truck and take a quick look (of course nothing was visibly wrong), started it back and it everything was fine. Drove home with no problems whatsoever.
Yesterday I was driving home from work when the same thing happened. Started up fine, about 15 minutes into my drive I'm sitting at a stop light, hit the gas and it just starts revving again without shifting. I went home and disconnected the battery for 30mins. Started up fine again, driving to school went without any problems. Coming back from school though, the same scenario - stopped at a light, hit the gas, and RPMs just fly up. This time, though, when I got to a stop sign, I came to a complete stop, turned the car off for a second and turned it right back on - everything was fine again!
I'm rather stumped here - at first I thought it was the tranny going on me for sure - 150k is a lot of miles. There is no roughness or noise coming from the trans at all, though - the shifts are as smooth as they ever were before this problem occured. The fact that I can turn the ignition off for one second and turn it right back on and the problem is "fixed" leads me to believe something in the electrical system is going whack. Doing a bit of digging I've found a similar case where some speculated it could be the result of a bad TPS sensor. Anyone think this sounds like a likely canidate for this problem?
