I'm replacing the upstream O2 sensors on my 98 5.0L. The driver side sensor was no problem locating. I can't find one on the passenger side. Where is it located? Any special proceedure on removing it?

bank 1 upstream sensor is mounted in the upstream catalytic converter-

You should see it right downstream of the passenger side header-

There are 2 rear cats also-don't get them confused with the upstream cats-

Not on all of them. What you may need to do is disconnect the harness, slip the harness through your end wrench (7/8 IIRC) and use that to remove it. Using the open end probably will leave you with a rounded off O2 sensor. In fact, I believe the last one I did wouldn't budge in the tight confines I was working in and I had to remove the exhaust pipe so I could get a wrench on it properly. It's been a while, but that rings a bell.

I just bought a Lisle O2 sensor socket. It's about 5" long. Is there enough room on the passenger side to use a socket this long?

If you mean without removing the console I would say no, hell there is probably only about 5 inches between the exhaust pipe and floorboard period, plus the O2 sensor sticks up almost vertically from the pipe so even if you were able to get a wrench on the end of the socket there is no room to swing the wrench. Removing the console is probably the only option. There has to be a reason Ford put the access panel there....

Remember though-
the sensor location pictured in the console removal thread is a REAR sensor-

Just so you all know.

You should be able to access the upstream passenger side sensor through there also, it is at the very front right corner of the access panel and down aways. You can just follow the harness. More than likely a long swivel extension will be necessary.

I don't recall accessing either upfront sensor through the console panel. That's good for disconnecting some of the 4 harnesses though.
