I was able to get good results from explorer express. They have everything you need to lower your explorer awd ( mine is a 98 mountaineer awd 5.0 v8). they also sell the edelbrock ias shocks that are tuned to thier susp. spec. i highly recomend them , as this whole susp kit saved the lives of me and my family. long but true story

So you have decided to join the street guys, huh? Hehe, welcome to the dark side. ;)

Fitting 275 with 2" drop won't be a problem. Members here do it all the time. You just have to be careful when choosing the wheels for that 275 tire. You have to have the right offset or BS for it not to rub anything at full lock when turning. EE has the right wheels, if you do not want to go thru the hassle of searching for the right BS or offset. You already know about the TT. Yea, just unscrew those babies out and you are done. Ofcourse, alignment is needed afterwards and new sets of shocks might also be in order.

Here is a picture of a 1996 with our lowering package installed. We sell all of the parts from our X-Spec Handling Package seperately including thre lowering kit.

Our lowering kit is set up for a 1 3/8" drop at this rear. This still allows you to have some ride travel. The blocks are high quality units made special for us by Chasis Tech. The u-bolts are also made special and they fit! The kit includes the camber adjusters required to correct the front end alignment. We also include complete instructions & free tech support!

how much is just the lowering kit?

I am very happy with my EE lowering. The best part is that everything actually fits.

im going to buy it when i buy wheels

John V- the kit comes with a camber adjustment, isnt that what correct the alignment? why do u need to get an alignment done after the kit? that only if u dont put the adjustments in?

you will need an alignment because anytime you adjust the preload on the torsion bars it throws the alignment off- mainly the camber. the adjustment cams allow the camber to be dialed back in. once you get around -1" or more, there is no longer enough adjustment to get correct camber without the cams.

you will need the cams and an alignment.

icic...thanks james

I have read that lowering the truck helps with the ride quality and the such.....

but what does it do to the offroad capability of the X?

I almost never offroad....ok so I have never been offroad....the 88 Nissan Stanza didnt workk well off the street

Will I lose ground clearance if I drop the X the 2"?? When driving down the road are you noticably lower....not looking at the truck but while sitting in the driver seat do you feel as high as you used to?

Thanks for any answers :)

Of course you will lose ground clearance, it will be basically useless off road after the drop. But your on-road handling will really improve. I would venture to say that you would feel about 2" lower then you did before you had the drop.;)

Mine rides much better with a lowering; the handeling is a world of difference.

I recommend the Explorer Express X Spec kit.

There is a guy that knows what he is talking about, he has been cruising with the X-Spec Suspension for a while now. Thank you Al.

Thank you James T for the great explanation. The alignment must be done in order set the toe & camber to specs after the torsion twist and installation of the camber adjusters.

When you lower the vehicle, you will limit the ride travel. A lowered Explorer is more likely to bottom out (exceed suspension travel) over big bumps and pot holes. We have done everything possible to make the ride quality smooth on the road. The special Edelbrock shocks are designed for the less ride travel. The special bump stops & suspension bumpers make the ride more forgiving when you do bottom out. Offroading is pretty much out of the question. Driving at low speeds on a gravel road is ok. This is a nice street set up. The bouncy ride is gone. You can expect a firmer ride that is not bone jarring. You can also expect awesome handling, improved stability & reduced body roll.

--> John V:

I just imported my Explorer to Germany. Since Explorers are still very rare here in Germany, there are no lowering kits available over here. I am thinking about getting the EE lowering kit, however, I need to know a couple of things about the materials used so I can get it approved by our car inspectors. What I need to know is what kind of material the spacer is made of, is there some kind of corrosion protection, what kind of grade u-bolts are used...that kind of information. With that, the car inspector will be able to tell me if I can get this thing approved....
Thank you for any help.

"Includes aluminum lowering blocks"-thats from the description on the EE site

Thanx Ex95XLT.

Is there any corrosion protection for these aluminum spacers?
Also, the more important question is that what grade the u-bolts are...
Any ideas?

Thanx
